How We Can Help

At Well-Being Health and Movement (WHAM), we understand that feeding and nutrition look different for every child. Eating is not just about food—it is shaped by our experiences, culture, environment, and individual needs. Our paediatric dietitian is here to support children and families in navigating nutrition challenges with a compassionate, inclusive, and evidence-based approach.

Our Approach

At WHAM, we recognise that nutrition is more than just nutrients—it’s about fostering positive feeding relationships, promoting healthy mealtime dynamics, and helping children build confidence and curiosity around food.

We take a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming, and inclusive approach that respects each child’s unique journey. This means we work with families to create a supportive and flexible feeding environment that encourages autonomy, respects internal cues, and builds lifelong skills and confidence.

Our Key Principles:

A Responsive Feeding Approach
We follow a responsive feeding approach, which supports children in developing their internal cues, curiosity, and motivation around food. Rather than focusing on pressure or rigid mealtime rules, we encourage a relaxed, positive environment where children can explore and engage with food at their own pace.

Non-Diet, Weight-Inclusive Care
When it comes to weight concerns, we take a non-diet approach—meaning we don’t focus on restrictive eating, calorie counting, or achieving a specific weight. Instead, we prioritise overall well-being, a positive relationship with food, and body respect. This approach helps children and families build a healthy outlook on food and body image, preventing disordered eating patterns and promoting sustainable health behaviours.

Considering the Whole Child
We understand that feeding and nutrition challenges are often linked with other coexisting conditions. By addressing underlying factors—such as sensory sensitivities, medical conditions, past negative experiences with food, or family mealtime dynamics—we tailor our support to your child’s individual needs.

Our goal is to empower children and families with the knowledge, support, and confidence to create positive mealtime experiences, promote healthy growth and development, meet nutritional needs in a way that aligns with the child’s individual needs, and nurture a lifelong healthy relationship with food.
